Although we were not sure whether about our car (Li’ll Alto)is ready or not. We started our day early and got ready to take on to Jalori Pass. We had to have three hot cups of tea to feel a bit warmer after we check-in in to the hotel….!!ĭay 2 : Narkanda to Jalori Pass (Around 85 Kms) Narkanda is at about 9200 feet above from sea level and weather was cold and chilly when we reached there. It was pretty decent and affordable Hotel with beautiful surroundings. We gave ourselves a break (including to our li’ll Alto) and moved to HPTDC’s Hatu. Narkanda is about 65 kms from Shimla and took us about 3 hrs to reach there at about 2.45 pm we stopped the engines, in all it was 12 Hrs way to get there from Gurgaon! The road after Shimla was sheer pleasure to drive. Interrupted by heavy traffic (because of Holiday season) on the road we reached Capital of Himachal around 11 am. After Kalka we felt further drop in temperature, but high on the thrill of twisted roads. Journey from Gurgaon started in planes until we reached Kalka. Leaving all these stories behind, we were finally in the lap of nature, soaking in the fresh mountain air and the soothing early morning sun. Girish told that his truck broke down (and none of truck’s light working) so he was standing there indicating about the truck to avoid any collision. Going a little further I noticed a person standing beside a truck with a Torch in his hand, and asked my husband what the hell is he doing in this chilly morning without much winter clothing. We felt sad and thought who is to blame for the Fog or ……. From mid-May to the end of July, it clearly extends past midnight and lasts for hours.Įven further north, in Norway at the North Cape or the Spitsbergen archipelago, it is actually light or dark for days.We also came across 2 accidents due to this Fog and in one driver of vehicle was so shocked that he was not ready to come out of his driving seat. In the graph above, you can clearly see that twilight lasts much longer towards the middle of the year, even in Helsinki. In winter, it's not pitch black all day, but you need light all the time, and the all-enveloping darkness strikes many people.Īlso in the southern regions the twilight is different than in countries near the equator. The nights in midsummer just seem like a slight twilight. However, the scattering of light intensifies the perceived impression. Theoretically, you can still see a small part of the sun there during the night of the summer solstice, and at the winter solstice the sun is still visible as a crescent above the horizon during the day. The northernmost tip of Finland lies on the 70th parallel. Near the Arctic Circle, this effect is not yet as obvious as in the more northern parts of the country. There is a reason for this, because north of the 66th parallel the sun does not set in summer and does not rise in winter. Santa Claus and his reindeer shake hands here you won't find many people above the Arctic Circle. At about two thirds of the distance, the Arctic Circle crosses the country at Rovaniemi (Lapland). Effect of the Arctic Circle Finland stretches some 1300 km into the far north - almost to the Arctic Ocean.
